Connect AI apps (MCP)
Let an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT read and work with your account: what it asks for, what you approve, and how to take it back.
AnswerStack is itself an MCP server. Any app that speaks MCP (Model Context Protocol), such as Claude, ChatGPT or your own internal agent, can connect to your account and answer questions like "how many tours did Lakeview book last week, and why did the rest not book?" without an export.
The app acts as you. It can never do more than you can, and you choose what it may do when you connect it.
Connect an app#
Add AnswerStack to your app
In your AI app's settings for connectors or MCP servers, add this address:
https://api.<your-domain>/mcpYour account manager gives you the exact host. Nothing else is needed: the app finds out how to sign in from the server itself.
Sign in to AnswerStack
The app opens AnswerStack in your browser. Sign in as you always do.
Decide what it may do
The consent screen shows what the app is asking for. Change anything you like, then press Allow, or Don't allow to refuse.
Back to the app
You return to the app, which can now use your account within what you allowed.
The consent screen#
| Part | What to check |
|---|---|
| The heading, (app) wants access to (your account) | The name is what the app says about itself. |
| After you decide, you go back to an address | Where you are sent next. This is the part to trust, because an app can call itself anything. If it is not where you started, press Don't allow. |
| Verified | Shown only for apps AnswerStack has checked. An unchecked app says so: only continue if you started this from an app you trust. |
| What it may do | Each permission in plain words. Reads start ticked. Anything marked (makes changes) starts unticked: you tick it on purpose. Greyed-out items are not available to your role, or are blocked by your account's compliance setting. |
| Which groups it may see | Every group I can see, or Only these groups. A group manager always picks from their own. |
| For how long | Until I take it back, 30 days or 90 days. |
AnswerStack MCP tools reference lists every permission and what it covers.
Asking for more later#
Apps start by asking for the least they need. When an app tries something its access does not cover, it is refused and told which permission to ask for, and a well-behaved app sends you back to the consent screen. The screen then says the app already has some access from you, and what you choose now replaces it. Permissions it already has are marked already allowed.
What an app can never do#
Whatever you allow, no app can:
- publish a playbook (it can edit a draft, with permission, for a person to publish);
- invite people, change roles or manage the team;
- add or change connections, credentials, tool servers or phone numbers;
- see or change billing or account settings;
- use the kill switch or start calls.
These change what callers hear or who can reach your account, so they stay in the app, where a person does them on purpose.
What an app reads is narrowed three times: by the permissions you gave it, by your role today, and by the communities you can see today. If your role is lowered, the app loses what you lost.
Take access back#
Open the account menu (top right), choose Personal settings, then Developer, and open the Connected apps tab. Each app shows what it may do, which communities, when it was last used and when its access ends. Press Revoke: the app stops working at once. To use it again, someone has to connect it again.
For owners and admins#
Owners and admins see two lists on Connected apps: Yours and Everyone's, with who connected each app. They can revoke any of them.
They also set the Rules for connected apps, which apply to every member:
| Rule | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Members may connect apps | On | Off stops every connected app and refuses new ones. |
| Who may give an app access that makes changes | Owners and Admins | Tick Editors or Group managers to let them give an app permissions that make changes. |
| Only approved apps | Off | On, list the Approved apps, one per line: an app's client ID, or the address it returns to (such as claude.ai). |
Press Save rules. Apps follow them within a minute.
Info
A rule never revokes anything. Tightening one pauses what it covers; loosening it again restores every app as it was. To remove an app for good, revoke it.
Other things that end access#
- Deactivating a member revokes every app they connected, at once. See Team and roles.
- Compliance mode blocks permissions to read transcripts, recordings and callers' names and numbers. See Settings.
- AnswerStack can block a specific app, or pause connected apps for an account.
Software without a person#
Connected apps are for a person using an AI assistant. For a scheduled job or a partner's system, use an API token or a service identity instead. See API tokens and service identities.
